Blue collar workers are far less of a monolithic bloc than before, partly because rising living standards tend to weaken the appeal of class rhetoric, and partly because the Democratic Party's cultural lurch to libertinism has left many socially conservative and religious working men and women disenchanted with their former political home.

I think the Hollywood stars were a real turnoff to middle America. "Libertine men and scarlet women!"

When Kerry got up on stage with them in NYC and declared, "these are my kind of people!," he really hurt himself. I have not seen much comment on this aspect by the MSM.
