"We don't avoid what we don't fear (imo)." That's not true, I avoid some activities because they are a waste of time or boring. I would move but not because I fear death. I tend to avoid pain whenever possible. Getting mowed down by a car sounds painful. In addition to that it does not gaurantee death and I certainly fear the kind of life I would have to live in such a condition. I have other reasons for avoiding the oncoming car. I have strong survivor instincts and I am a striver. I am very goal driven to achieve many things in life. However, if someone told me that I had five minutes left, I could lay down and await the moment with no fear and few regrets.
