Ramsey, your question is an interesting one, but it would be
difficult to answer with any authority. WIND's approach, under Ron
Abelmann, has been to establish strategic relationships with large
companies where there are numerous opportunities for VxWorks and,
therefore, a big advantage to the customer in terms of product design
commonality. I don't know if WIND tries to develop new product
categories like my vending machine example. I do believe that
embedded applications, in general, will continue to grow in number
as the understanding of distributed computing blossoms. I think the
Internet serves as a catalyst in this process. SUN Micro's slogan,
coined over a decade ago, rings true like never before: The network
IS the computer!
