The US model is Clinton, right?

The model is Tony Blair. He took Labor to the middle. They didn't like it, but they wanted to get back in power.

Clinton's character may be less than admirable, but his political smarts are fabulous. People used to deride him as a wonk but he actually believes ideas are important. What ideas are you going to arrive at the middle with?

The lefty loonies have to go or, at least, be put back in the closet.. Who's going to do it?

Bush already had the right. He captured enough of the middle to win. I know, I know, there's all that talk of Rove getting out religious GOPs who didn't vote in the last election but you don't win a US national election without the middle.

Serious issues the Dems didn't deal with at all well:

The campaign against the new fascists. Security.
Social Security.
Medical care.
Taxes.

Who knows what their policy is on any of these matters?

The present GOP hubris probably won't persist but even if it does and they get in trouble, "We're not them," is not usually a policy alternative or a sufficient message to get elected.

Why did Clinton not lose his last election? What about that second midterm? Who did the voters punish?
