Peppers are another crop that takes little room for the amount you get. Tomatoes and peppers are also very easy for to grow. Helps a lot in my case.

I grow most of the things I do just for the satisfaction and relaxation of doing it but...it sure does save a few bucks as well. Veggie stands up here charge around $2.50lb for tomatoes. Not many tomatoes to a pound.

The only time we buy much in the summer now is when my wife and sisters decide to spend a weekend canning and making sauce for the winter. The stands run pretty good late summer deals on bushels of tomatoes. With 3 or more people doing it it goes pretty fast. My brother-in-law and I do our own olives as well. Get them by the case at the farmers market and do the brine and jarring our self. Go through a ton of garlic as well. It's great in the olives. Also put a lot of them up in olive oil. Really got the taste for that in later years. Loaf of real good bread and dip it into warm extra virgin olive oil....Man!
