Allen, In one of your previous posts you mention encryption as a possible application for iLANs. Message 13923879 "(d) A vertical, shrink-wrapped software market on top of iLANs to sell VPN, VoIP, firewalls, security, encryption, compression, switches, routers, etc. The latter two can be developed by plugging in Intel's IXP 1200 into an iLAN" The 17 year patent on the RSA algorithm expired on the 6th of this month. I believe this means that any company is free to use the technology without paying royalties to RSA. rsasecurity.com "As of September 6, 2000, RSA Security is making the RSA algorithm publicly available and waiving its rights to enforce the RSA patent for any development activities that include the algorithm occurring after September 6, 2000. From this date forward, companies will be able to develop products that incorporate their own implementation of the RSA algorithm and sell these products in the U.S." Regards JC.
