Let me put forward the ideal that I think governs you when you care about someone or something, and therefore about an outcome. When the outcome depends on you, you take all steps that you can think of to get it right. Obviously, one has to tolerate a degree of uncertainty, or refrain from action altogether, but with that caveat, one researches, asks advice, reflects, consults soothsayers, whatever one thinks will help to clarify what is the best course of action. The more momentous the contemplated outcome, the more one temporizes and tries to find the key to the best solution before acting. This is what is called taking a matter seriously........ |
