Been lurking a few years. First post on WIND...

How did I get involved in Wind River Systems? Of course because of the young gorilla that it is, it's good fundamentals, etc. And partly because I recognized the name from somewhere long ago, from when I was a kid growing up in the cherry and apricot orchards that would become Silicon Valley.

Back when I was 8 years old we went on a family vacation to Wyoming to visit Mom's Uncle Fred, and cousin Dee took my Dad and me on a backpacking trip in the Wind River Range. A place called Slide Lake. Hiked 6 miles, caught some fish, waited out a rain storm. Dee baked bisquits in a makeshift tinfoil oven. A bear or raccoon stole the fish we were going to eat for breakfast. That morning walking along the shore I found a small obsidian arrowhead, glossy and black and perfect, and still have it today...
It was me, Dad, cousin Dee and the Wind River Range. It was/is one of those special memories and life-shaping experiences. PlanetGranite was born there.

And a few years ago while in the lab at work , I glanced up at a shelf of network boards, cables, parts and junk, and saw a Wind River Systems box and said "Hmmmm, what's that?"
