Just watched Rumsfeld on CNN. Quite a remarkable interview with the press. To be honest, it was the first TV news coverage I have watched in a long time. It was good to see Rumsfeld with his confidence, blasting the terrorists who are sponsored killers with a nasty habit of beheading people.

Seems like the election induded silence out of Washington is over. Rumsfeld said that he and Powell were asked by the President to keep election comments out of the way, and it would have been impossible for him to avoid making some direct comments on the matter. With the election over, it is time for these guys to come out swinging.

I especially liked his comment that the decision to attack the insurgents in Fallujah included the decision to finish the attack, leaving no room for ambiguity that they would apply whatever level of force necessary to win the battle.

Finally, the success of the elections in Afghanistan have been measured by a gradual shift of support for the election process. As people see a greater role for them to participate in the elections, the polls have demonstrated an increase in support for this democratic process. Interesting to see his characterization of the elections in Afghanistan as an overwhelming victory.
