Sure it was. Life's a great deal safer now than it was then. Nowadays people actually take stuff like murder pretty seriously. Not then. It wasn't safe to go out after dark; travelling from city to city was worth your life if you didn't go with armed companions.

Family member murdered? You want to bring the culprit to justice? Good luck. Your best chance--the one most people took--was to exact a blood price. Rates for a Milanese artisan of the late Quattrocento? About 25 lire, barely enough to feed a family of four for three or four months.
