I have. Three, in fact. One still is. Religion used be a vocal opponent, but it was never state-affiliated opposition. Taking it further, I live today in a town where a casino license was granted where religious opposition was extensive, and was funded by companies like Harrahs and Boyd Gaming to prevent the license. Religions have the right, under our law, to oppose such measures. That has nothing to do with "church and state."

The reality is that when you allow your government control or exclude religion you set the stage for theocracy. Because the existence of freedom of religion protects religion from the state while the Establishment Clause protects the people from theocratic tendencies. You have to have these provisions if you are to be free.

So, you should carefully weigh how much bashing of religious freedom you think is wise.
