Fred, look up and carefully read Fred Zhang's articulate letter.

In his last sentence, Fred says, "In the long run PCs will be as powerful as SGI workstation, but who knows how powerful SGI workstation will be in the future."

What's interesting is that as technology becomes cheaper, more people have access. Still,people are still never satisfied with what they have. For instance, the other night I was looking at computer that cost $95,000 last year. This year they figure it is worth, maybe $50,000. Are they going to buy more of the $50,000 machines?

Hell. No. They want to upgrade to higher end products that offer better quality.

Generally, people are unhappy with the technology that they have. They always want more. Maybe, their thirst for knowledge has to do with the the "curiousity gene" that researchers found recently.
