I thought KVHI's annual report was very impressive.
I especially like the section with the title KVH will Combine Content with its Mobile Broadband Capabilities to Meet the Needs of Tomorrow, which talks about high bandwidth, mobile (i.e. satellite) systems that will provide reception of broadband Internet, video, and multimedia for users on the move.
I wish I knew more about their strategy in this area, and how much of this is just imagination, and how much is based on any R&D they've done. Certainly the newest proposed board member should be able to help them in this area, so they are taking steps to reach this goal.
Some of the questions I have in this area include - for the Internet, how will users transmit? At what bandwidth? And how much will these types of systems cost? What constraints will there be, for example, will users need to have line of sight to the satellite to work properly? If line of sight is necessary, will that mean that trees can obscure the signal? There's a lot of technical/practical concerns here, but if they can make the right product, I'm sure there's a lot of demand for it. |
