sinclap, I criticize Apple as much as anyone but you seem to be misinformed. I have extensive experience on both platforms and some Linux

Tech Tools? who uses that anymore? I'm sure it's around but that was System 9 technology. Diskwarrior maybe.

As for the PC, you had a lot of crap built up which you did not address. No different than maintaining the auto.

No difference like the difference between an old Pinto and a new Camry.

Both Macs and PCs require maintenance.

PCs require extensive effort, and knowledge to maintain. Most of the people who claim it's not a problem are extensively experienced, with knowledge of how to avoid and remove viruses, and spyware, booting to safe mode etc. Most of the PC owners I know have no real knowledge of how to do that. If the registry screws up even experienced users are poop out of luck. Requires complete apps and OS install, files are lost. Yes you can sometimes to a system revert... sometimes.

Macs, like Linux machines require very minimal maintenance. An experienced user like me can do a maintenance run in no time. If there is a problem with the OS the worst that happens is an archive and install - one or two hours. All files and apps intact.

One thing I find interesting is PC users still believe their have been Mac viruses and they tout the fact you have to "remove" viruses from Macs. Not true. There have been proof of something viruses but never has any Mac user needed to remove spyware or a virus to this point. When and if it does happen it will make front page news on all geek blogs.

So viruses and spyware:

Macs - ZERO
Windows - multi thousands

Registry/OS

Macs - EASY
Windows - about a week
