I can tell you that Northern VA (where both Kholt and I live) has thousands and thousands of illegal Hispanics who live and work without any difficulty from immigration or any other law enforcement authority.

I think that is true of where I live too?

There is a big and growing Hispanic population in the Seattle area. Not being able to speak Spanish doesn't help, but most of the Hispanics I encounter speak passable, if not good, English. I would really love to do a local survey and ask them if they are legal residents, but I don't know how to bridge the trust barrier. Not to mention, I'd probably be arrested for being insensitive or some such made up sillylaw.

I don't know how our government determines how many are her illegally......I don't see people with clip boards on street corners stopping people that look Mexican or Spanish and asking them questions.

My town has a population of approx. 8200 people. We now have 7 Mexican restaurants. Maybe the feds keep track through employment records, but I've been led to believe that isn't entirely.....or anywhere near......reliable.

I'm sure our schools are a valuable source of information regarding the Hispanic population. I've never thought to go to them for figures or statistics.
