Sriram,

I'm not so sure. Do you remember the old saying in the 70's & 80's?
"...There's IBM and then there's everyone else". MSFT has just
suffered a PR disaster. This will really make them look isolated
from the rest of the world on a forward-looking technology that
will soon be adopted by most of the civilized world.

If you want to run a banking application from your home or car to
get an update on a checking account balance, what are you going
to run, 100% pure java applications or a Windows CE j++ application?

Since MSFT isn't 100% pure java & since Windows CE doesn't scale &
won't be compatible w/Windows NT, even if your bank DID run NT
instead of MVS or Solaris, you wouldn't be compatible & your
application wouldn't run very well.

But, why should you care what kind of O/S your bank runs? If you
have a 100% pure Java device (like an Ericsson or Nokia cell phone)
you don't care, because your application will automatically work.
MSFT's "java" won't work at all, because they refuse to adhere to
the Java standard.

MSFT's ploy is a charade. They're just playing for time.

cheers,

cherylw
