Ben,

everyone is after Docomo funny money and why not.

Back in early Feb, Docomo raised about 800 billion yen from selling 400,000 new shares. They promptly handed that over to ATT for about 16% of AWE. ATT kept about $3 billion for themselves and left about $6 billion for AWE. AWE then floated about $6.5 billion in 5, 10 and 30 year bonds so they have a borrowed war chest of over $12 billion to piss off which ever way they want.

but.....

The yen came with some strings. ATT must complete their spin off plan by March of next year and Docomo gets to choose the technology.

March 7, Docomo then floated a 180 billion yen bond, netting them another $1.52 billion US bucks. Though not much, it is enough to make the Koreans come begging.

and why not ....?

Borrowing at a negligible interest rate, using a currency that is likely to tank is any borrowers dream. Invest that money over seas and try to play world domination scheme.
