The first time I saw the term "customer asset management" was in some marketing literature from Vantive, about 18 months ago. The way they use the term, its the same as "customer relationshop management". It has its roots in some paper/book by a couple of Harvard Business School profs. They showed that loyal customers buy stuff, margins from these customers are high, so they should be treated as an asset that can create a solid revenue stream. I think clever marketing types then coined the term "customer asset management". In the old days we used to call this "account management", but that's not sexy enough, I guess.

Why AMR thinks this is new stuff is a mystery to me. Unless the report was dated a couple of years ago?
