Story Filed: Wednesday, November 01, 2000 1:47 AM EST

SEOUL, Nov 01, 2000 (AsiaPulse via COMTEX) -- Korea's Information and Communication Ministry announced today
that three consortia have applied for next-generation international mobile communication IMT-2000 licenses using
asynchronous mode for 2GHz frequency, while just one consortium applied for synchronous mode.

The ministry said that two of the three asynchronous mode applicant, which were headed by LG Group, Korea Telecom and Sk Group respectively, would be selected as providers based on evaluation scores and the sole synchronous mode bidder, headed by Hanaro Telecom, would win a license if deemed a credible provider.

The ministry will review eligibility from Nov. 3-11 and conduct qualification scrutiny and quantification and non-quantification
evaluations from Nov. 20 to December 14.

The selection of IMT-2000 providers will be completed by late December, the ministry said.
