Manhattan Scientifics to Unveil Fuel Cell Power Charger
Prototype.
Always On™ Holster for Cellular Phones Eliminates Need for
Plug-In.

Los Alamos, NM, October 30, 2000 - Manhattan Scientifics, Inc. (OTC Bulletin
Board: MHTX - news) announced today that it will unveil for the first time a working
prototype of its proprietary MicroFuel Cell™ portable cell phone charger at the
2000 Fuel Cell Seminar in Portland, Ore., on Nov. 2.

Pictures of the Power Holster™ prototype may be viewed by clicking on
www.magzoom.com/MHTX

The charger, called the Power Holster™, is a portable lightweight cellular phone
charging system that is only slightly larger than a typical cell phone belt holster. It
uses a tiny array of MicroFuel Cells™ to continuously charge the phone when
inserted in the holster. Although the current prototype is being used with a Nokia
cellular phone, the Power Holster™ technology can easily be adapted to any
brand of cellular phone. The MicroFuel Cells™ directly convert air and a mixture of
methanol and water from disposable ampoules to produce electricity. The exhaust
products are carbon dioxide and water, making the system an environmentally
benign alternative to batteries for portable electronics. The MicroFuel Cells™
inside the Power Holster™ prototype are formed on paper-thin plastic sheets
intended for roll-fed mass production. The company has filed patents to protect
these inventions.

Chief Fuel Cell Scientist Robert Hockaday said, ``For the first time we will be
exhibiting a working prototype of our Power Holster™ product. We have
successfully powered a Nokia 6190 cellular phone with our Power Holster™
prototype for one month. We were able to produce more than twice the battery
energy of the 900 mAh lithium ion battery on the Nokia phone with one ounce of
fuel. We anticipate improving on this performance in the near future.''

``Last February,'' Hockaday said, ``we announced test results from a single fuel
cell. We have incorporated those capabilities into this new working prototype. In
our current test fuel cells, we are realizing twice the efficiency of this prototype.
We will incorporate the improvements from these current test cells into future
versions of the Power Holster™.''

Marvin Maslow, CEO of Manhattan Scientifics, said, ``I am an active cellular
phone user and the notion of eliminating the need for plug-in charging is very
appealing, particularly when I am traveling. When we began, one of our goals was
to complete a prototype of the Power Holster™ system that would be compatible
with today's batteries and bring cellular phones to an 'always on' mode. Manhattan
Scientifics' engineering team has now accomplished this. There will soon be no
further need to be tethered to an electric outlet for recharging. Following our
philosophy of incubating technologies to the prototype level, our next goal is to
partner with manufacturers to bring product to market. A number of discussions
are underway and are expected to lead to teaming relationships.''

Maslow continued, ``With our NovArs scientific team in Germany developing
higher power fuel cells, Manhattan Scientifics technologies could result in a wide
range of consumer and commercial applications that require power ranges from
microwatts to kilowatts.''

The 2000 Fuel Cell conference consists of three days of presentations by some of
the leading fuel cell experts from around the world. In addition to scientists from
Europe, Japan and the United States, the conference is also expecting attendees
and participants from the Department of Energy, NASA, the Department of
Commerce and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) as
well as the Fuel Cell Development Information Center in Japan and the
Netherlands Energy Research Foundation.

Manhattan Scientifics, Inc. is developing and commercializing technologies in the
field of alternative energy, holographic data storage, computer and Internet
software enhancements and advanced water filtering technologies. Manhattan
Scientifics' research headquarters are located in Los Alamos, N.M. Executive
offices are in New York City. Copies of Manhattan Scientifics press releases,

company's control. Actual results could differ materially from these forward-looking
statements as a result of a variety of factors. These include but are not limited to,
successfully completing the research and development with respect to the micro
fuel cells and other technologies, successfully commercializing the fuel cells and
holographic storage devices for mass production, successfully protecting the
company's patents, and effective significant industry competition from various
entities whose capabilities far exceeds the company's. NovArs GmbH and ERDI
are independent contractors to Manhattan Scientifics, Inc., which acquired and
owns certain intellectual property of these companies. In light of these risks and
uncertainties there can be no assurances that the forward-looking statements in
this press release will in fact transpire or prove to be accurate.
