…and he found one of those white Hispanics who received a brutal privilege check.
Police say Jeremiah Bell, 22, went out Sunday looking to attack “anybody who wasn’t black.” On a residential street just a short walk from his apartment, they say, Bell, who is black, found Armando Barron, who is Latino, walking home from the grocery store, and attacked him about 2:30 p.m.
Barron, a 54-year-old grandfather, was beaten to death with a baseball bat. He was murdered for not being black.
While Obama delivers more lectures castigating Americans for being racist, perhaps he might spare a word for the likes of Armando Barron, animated by real racism, not microaggressions or disparate impact.
A GoFundMe fundraiser page for the family’s medical bills indicated Barron was not expected to survive.
“Our father was a loving and noble person, who was tragically assaulted based on the color of his skin. He taught us to be loving and see beyond color,” the page read. “Our only comfort at this time is that he is no longer in pain and that he will soon be in heaven to look over us and his grandchildren.”
Maybe Obama could spare a word for him, and maybe he would have, if he were the same color as Freddie Gray.
