You can participate, sure. But you better be careful when you try to lead. There's a difference between reading a book by a Sufi, and writing a book yourself with a Sufi character when you aren't Sufi.

You're mixing up sampling other cultures with taking over the voice of another culture. There's a difference. It's nuanced but not that difficult to understand. For years the voices of other cultures have been silenced- now they are yelling. We should probably listen. Might some of it be an over reaction? Sure- but who gives a shit- since what these voices are reacting to was almost total hegemony by whites and white culture.

A balance will be struck eventually, and if you've noticed, the rage is mostly directed at white people who've been the main squashers and stealers of other cultures. I feel it's directed correctly.
