Bob, Gateway Bashes Intel. It's very rare for a big company to get bashed by a small company. the guys at Intel must be red in the face after reading about this. I think there is more to this story. In a recent televised interview on PBS Nightly Business Report with Paul Kangas, Andy Grove stated that hi-tech advancements and the internet phenomina were happening at a pace so rapidly that it was beyond Intel's capability to keep pace with knowledge progress. He said Intel's stratedgy was to invest in companies outside Intel as a way to learn. Having had time to reflect on the interview it left me with several changed perceptions about Intel. First Grove no longer seems to have full control. For the first time he appeared humble, rather than his arrigant. Second that the future spere of influence was now occuring outside of Intel, not inside as before. Given some of Intels stated problems in it's core business CPU's, it invokes the question. Has Intels top managment been distracted away from sticking to the nitting? Or have today's Business demands caused top managment to sucume to the Peter Principle were the Moore, Grove and Barrett have after a great ride have hit their level of incompetance. Or is Intel merly distracted by the abundance of opertunity offered by recent Intel annoucements involving Intel in high speed modems, and hand held computing devices.
