The future WILL be bright for Digital STBs. Check this news on leading indicator, BskyB:
biz.yahoo.com

"BSkyB, ... said heavy subscriber acquisition costs paid off
with a rise in digital sales to 3.8 million, with 3.6 million already installed, taking its total subscriber base to 4.5 million.

The strong subscriber growth -- which beat analyst forecasts by about 200,000 -- prompted BSkyB to set an ambitious target of seven million
users by the end of 2003 and the broadcaster is on track to reach five million by this year end.

BSkyB, Britain's largest and Europe's second-biggest pay-TV operator, said it had decided to switch off its old analogue service at an earlier
than expected date next year as a result of the strong digital growth -- a move which will save on costs.

``These are excellent numbers and are well ahead of what I was looking for. The subscribers numbers are driven by new customers to digital
rather than transitions from analogue which is encouraging,'' said Paul Richards, analyst at WestLB Panmure.
