3Dlabs Wildcat II 5110 Selected by SGI for High-End Silicon Graphics Zx10 Visual Workstations
SGI First OEM to Announce Support of Wildcat II 5110 in Dual-Processor Intel Pentium III Processor-Based Workstations; Combines Wahoo Technology With World's Fastest Graphics Accelerator
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Feb. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- 3Dlabs®, Inc. (Nasdaq: TDDD - news) today announced that SGI (NYSE: SGI - news) has selected the 3Dlabs Wildcat(TM) II 5110 graphics accelerator as a high-performance 3D graphics option for its award-winning Silicon Graphics Zx10(TM) visual workstations. Based on SGI's Wahoo Technology(TM) tuned system architecture for performance improvement, the Zx10 takes full advantage of the Wildcat II 5110's powerful graphics performance by offering unprecedented system throughput and I/O bandwidth. SGI plans to ship the Wildcat II 5110 in the Silicon Graphics Zx10 visual workstation powered by single or dual Intel® Pentium® III processors beginning in March.
The Wildcat II 5110 is the world's fastest graphics accelerator, as evidenced by Viewperf 6.1.2 benchmark results in which the Wildcat II 5110 outperformed all competing graphics products in every Viewperf category. With multiple geometry and rasterization pipelines integrated into a single accelerator, the Wildcat II 5110 delivers up to 250 percent higher performance than its Wildcat 4110 predecessor at a similar price.
``3Dlabs' new Wildcat II 5110 is a powerful graphics option for our Zx10 family of visual workstations,'' said Greg Goelz, vice president of volume products at SGI. ``The combination of the Wildcat II 5110's extreme graphics performance and the unsurpassed system bandwidth of Zx10 makes this workstation a high-performance solution for our content creation, MCAD, and visual simulation customers.''
``3Dlabs is proud to be selected by SGI, a company with a long history of innovations in graphics workstations, to provide the Wildcat II 5110 graphics accelerator for its Zx10 visual workstations,'' said Osman Kent, president and CEO of 3Dlabs. ``Professionals using SGI's Zx10 visual workstation with Wildcat II 5110 graphics will experience dramatic increases in productivity in digital content creation, computer-aided design, geographic information systems, and other graphics-intensive applications.''
