What are the drawbacks or difficulties in supporting that?

Strictly conjecture on my part, but Microsoft has a history of throwing monkey wrenches into its products whenever a third party tries to sync with them.

A vivid example in my mind was when Novell tried to sync Groupwise with Exchange. Many, many, odd occurrences with that.

Exchange is hard enough to manage without MS intentionally gumming up the works.

And shame on Apple for the way they responded to this.
