An interesting analysis. But a little wordy to say, 'a boy cried wolf and scared a lot of people, now the people feel a little foolish and need a place to direct their anger.'

Is there EVER a plan? Or do we just conjure up rationalizations after the fact such as 'The United States is in Iraq to force Saudi Arabia, Syria and Iran to change their behavior toward al Qaeda and other Islamist groups.' (The real reason? Or the only one that still makes any sense at this point in time?)

How about this explanation: Tribe A attacks Tribe B, Tribe B seeks revenge...lather, rinse, repeat. Of course, all the talk about strategy and plans allows us to delude ourselves into thinking we are something other than the violent, emotion-driven animals that we really are...
