William re: durable goods orders 'decline'. I believe that a pick-up in global growth is the order of the day. US durable goods orders are not declining -- but the rate of their increase is lessening somewhat. (If AMZN's growth rate slowed from 100% per year to 90%, would you let me get away with saying that ANZN sales are 'declining'). If the rest of the world is picking up faster than the US is slowing down -- and the US may not be slowing down at all -- then there would be a case for lower rates. Supply and demand have strange characteristics -- not easy to predict. Trouble is, when demand does exceed supply, some of the funny things that happen are not funny at all -- unless it is when the demand for stock exceeds supply, in which case it is hilarious -- take internet stocks for example, although this too can change (pray that it does not while you hold these stocks).
