mike,

I have never heard a clear explanation of how military ballots were handled in previous elections. I have heard several people (not connected with either campaign) say that there were always a lot of discards among them; but probably nobody ever made a fuss before.

The law I have heard cited is the Florida law, which requires a postmark. When both sides are scrapping for votes, do you really expect the Democrats to say "this absentee ballot has no postmark, or is dated after Nov. 7, so it's clearly illegal, but what the hey, it may be from one of our brave servicemen, so let it in anyway." Ain't gonna happen.

I don't think the Republican willingness to fling charges of unpatriotism is very helpful here, and just adds to the bad blood.
