Power and money: The Clintons' dual gods
EDITORIAL

In March, a lawyer for Hillary Clinton wrote to the chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi that a particular email address used by Clinton was “not an address that existed during Secretary Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state.” This week, The New York Times reported that Secretary Clinton used that email address to communicate with Clinton loyalist Sydney Blumenthal in 2011 and 2012. Uh-oh.

Clinton used Blumenthal as an outside intelligence source while she ran the State Department, forwarding his unvetted and often off-base or self-interested tips to her top staff.

Not only did Clinton use multiple private email addresses to conduct State Department business, contrary to previous assertions, but she did so with a man who was doing paid consulting for the Clinton Foundation while trying to arrange foreign business deals that would need State Department permits. This Blumenthal relationship was “embodying the blurry lines between business, politics and philanthropy that have enriched and vexed the Clintons and their inner circle for years,” as the Times put it.

The Times also reported this week on Hillary’s speaking gigs, which show “unusually close financial ties between Clinton and a broad array of industries that have issues before the government,” according to the paper.

This exploitation of power for personal financial gain is and always will be the essence of the Clinton machine. This is what one major political party is trying to put back in power.
