I mean I open my box, get my mail, put it on the desk next to the recycling bin, look thru it, toss what I don't want in the bin, and walk out of the post office.
"how exactly do you recycle your plastics, glass, aluminum, tin cans, and cardboard?"
I put everything in a plastic bag which originally contained kitty litter made from pine sawdust  ,
take it to the recycling center/transfer station, walk up a ramp, and dump it into their container, which, IIRC, is sort of reddish brown in color. Then I put the bag back in the truck. The center is just up the road from the Grange, so I generally go B4 meetings and after breakfasts.
I save up deposit bottles and cans until I get enuf to make loading the car worth the effort. That recycling center is across the street from the post office. Last time, I donated them to the Build a Skate Park Fund.
