I can't neccessarily agree with the statement that it is only for the technically illiterate. There are plenty of people who just don't have the time to spend on the internet all day long. They may use it in their spare time and find the features of AOL attractive. They may not need unlimited hours on the internet. I do like the fact that they are trying to diversify their business. This business is so young and you have to learn to adjust to the changes. They are still a high growth company. They project to have 10 million users by next year and possibly 15 million the year after. That is a lot of revenues (if they do indeed reach these goals). This will also attract advertisers who are willing to pay to reach this many people. The management of AOL said that they expect advertising revenue to be quite substantial in years to come.
I think investors are still nervous. The stock has had low volume and low volatility the past few days. I guess that is the sign of uncertainty, but I do understand investor's fears. The next few months should really tell where they are headed. If they do not pick-up with the Holiday season and the wintertime then I will be quite concerned myself, but I'm willing to hold onto what I have in the stock at this time. I don't think it's going to jump in the near term, but may over the next few months. We'll see what happens.
