Reagan was paid $2 million by a Japanese company for a series of speeches. He was heavily criticized for it, and while it looked bad, there was nothing to accuse him of doing. At the end of the day, if a former president wants to be paid for public speaking there is nothing to stop him.

Totally appropriate, AFAIK. Same with GWB who has made 15M since leaving office at 110k per speech.

I really don't think anyone can complain about former presidents speaking engagements. But when his spouse is a government official it gets muddy and when there is a conduit which can accept the payments in retun for favors it is an ethical disaster.

I do not see how an ethical problem like Hillary's can be resolved satisfactorily.
