James, I will go back and look at the section in Acts. I agree that we need to be careful in studying the Bible -- need to be in prayer and be open. I know that every situation in the epistles doesn't specifically apply to me, but all the epistles contain principles generally applicable to me, right?

Do you think it's fair to say that Jesus is the utlimate authority and when I have a question about something I'm trying to understand in the epistles that I'm "safe" to try to cross-reference the words of Jesus on the same subject in the gospels?

Don't take this the wrong way James -- Can you find the phrase "faith only" in the scriptures?

I have spent some time thinking about "faith without works." I hope this paraphrase isn't wrong but I think that -- true faith will motivate us to act differently. If it doesn't perhaps we are not "in the faith?" Paul says 2 Corinthians 13:5

Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you--unless, of course, you fail the test?

Faith is more than just believing, isn't it?
