OK, Networm, you raised the issue. I tried looking through the thread but I'm lost so here's my question.

I'm ready to donate my current system to the kids and build a new one, but....

What is the consensus of those in the know regarding the 100MHz mother boards?

I hate being stuck with Pentium II chips (I believe in competition), but the 100MHZ just makes sense to me, and doesn't cost appreciably more - unless you go to the 300 to 400 speed chips.

I thought I'd start out with a 266 and wait until the others get cheaper - much cheaper.

I know the reports say that you don't get much more speed, but it seems to me that in the future the world will go to the faster bus. Why would I want to invest new money in slower RAM and chipsets?

Will my 100MHz RAM work in any new 100MHz board, including a 100MHz Socket 7 motherboard if it arrives?

Side question - are the bx chipset motherboards available only in ATX form?

Thanks much in advance.

Peter
