Doug:

I see where you're trying to head! Thanks for bringing me back in synch with your thoughts.

I'm not sure what intel would attempt to hold CPQ - what I do know is that intel will most likely fight back how you highlighted - via price.

The only problem is that in order to show anyone a board with any chips (even intel) the big wigs like CPQ/HWP/IBM will request a committed volume before they even start at the drawing board.

It sounds great, but can AMD give the kind of volume you would need, coz you would be severely pissing against intel's leg. Sure, they would drop the price and probably make the whole equation (if there is one in the first place) null and void - but intel is not someone you play around with...

It'll be VERY interesting to see where this goes - I see potential for another big shakeup. But, as I said earlier, intel is VERY FAST in reacting. I am not sure when they will have a low-cost alternative (to the MediaGX) out, but I am sure it's not going to be long.

Additionally, it could mean that something like the DEC/Alpha deal could well happen again where intel throws a huge fight at first and then just decides to buy in to the technology finally.
