Although some (or many) of the phones would be used in cell mode most of the time, they would be seen by other potential users. For instance, it would not take but one or two satellite phones being used onboard a cruise ship to expose the G* service to a thousand good prospects. When these phones are used in public and are in the satellite mode because of no cell coverage, they will be noticed. The extended antenna will guarantee that.

But be careful where you use it. On National Public Radio's "Car Talk" show, they read a news item about the guy talking on a cell phone riding down a street on a donkey who guided his poor animal into path of an oncoming vehicle.
