Canada Dlr Hits Parity With US Dollar For 1st Time In 31 Yrs

TORONTO (Dow Jones)--The Canadian dollar has reached parity with its U.S. counterpart for the first time since November 1976.

The U.S. dollar briefly dipped to the C$1.0000 level around 9:11 a.m. EDT (1311 GMT), according to EBS, before rebounding modestly to its current C$1.0010 level.

The U.S. dollar has been under broadly based pressure Thursday morning, accentuating its sharp downtrend against the Canadian unit in recent trading.
