In the absence of the killings that Ukranian have been subject, it is estimated that its hypothetical population would have been 87 million on the eve of independence in 1991, instead of its actual 52 million.
Western Europe, as a whole, is an old continent. Eastern Europe is even worse. The top-ten fastest shrinking countries are all from Eastern/Central Europe.
This conflict will, sadly, add to Ukraine's population decline.
