Dorine,

Japan is a very important overseas market for Apple, which accounts
for about 15% of the overall income. The people there are loyal to
Apple due to Apple's quality and up-to-date hardware/software and
Japanese culture. Apple Japan is successful in its localization.
With Japanese trade surplus with every country in the world, they
have enough money to lift Apple up via buying more high-end G3's.
I am personally optimistic about this quarter's outcome from Japan's
sales figures, particularly in G3's series partly due to Japanese
economic stimulus package provided by its government.

Of course, Microsoft realizes the situation of Apple's current status
in Japan and tries to share Apple's success to boost its sales in that
area. But, Apple also benefits from Microsoft's involvement due to
Microsoft's popularity. Actually, I couldn't think of any significant
large companies being Microsoft's alliance but Intel. Being a
partner of Microsoft and not making waves to against it, Apple is
taking seriously about this relationship, same as Microsoft.

I like to see this trend continue.

Phil
