In regards to throughput, remember that the typical internet connection is probably 1 percent transmission from the end user and 99 percent content coming from the ISP.

A 100,000 hits on a satellite ISP is a 100,000 requests via phone lines that will get replied on another medium...satellite. Its not like cnn.com that get 100,000 hits and then responds over the same 'data highway'.

Of course this is easier said than done. There are always exceptions...e.g. if a user is uploading a file to a server, using electronic commerce, etc. then the 1/99 ratio will change. But overall, as long as the satellite can push the individual content to everbody, it should be able to handle the subs.

As for Echo IV, Charlie stated in the last chat that all of the transponders that they have licenses to use are operational. What I'm not sure about is whether or not the unpowered transponders can still be used in a backup capacity if another transponder failed....thus a power transfer from one transnponder to another.

I for one would also like to get a clear response from Echostar.
