I had a hilly paper route with only 18 papers. I had no brakes and so when I went down hill I side saddled my bike and drug my foot. I look back at that and am amazed I am alive. I had one customer that tipped me a dime and one a quarter. About 58 years ago.

When I got desperate for money I could always go caddy. The problem was that the African Americans had that as sort of their job and didn't like a blond kid coming in as they would always put me right out. they had the caddy's in a pen with a tall wooden fence and they would call us out from a window.

So when I went in I would be the lone white guy and the blacks would intimidate me. But I understood things from their point of view, but I was poor to. And there was a lot more racism than I understood when young.

The only good thing about Calif from a black perspective is that they did not need to have fear of anyone, but they sure had to endure racism i.e. hard for them to get good jobs.
