Isn't that how the USA was built? isn't that why we're in Ukraine now? While Russia, which annexed the state in 1783, officially tried to change the name back to Taurica, Crimea was still used informally and eventually reappeared officially in 1917. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/worldviews/wp/2014/02/27/to-understand-crimea-take-a-look-back-at-its-complicated-history Russia has controlled Crimea far longer than we've controlled most of what is now the US.
