Intel had highest semiconductor revenue in Q1; AMD joined the top 15 players

  • The world's top 15 semiconductor companies by revenue increased sales by 21% in Q1 compared to the prior year's period, according to new data from research firm IC Insights.
  • Intel (NASDAQ: INTC), Samsung ( OTC:SSNNF, OTC:SSNLF), and TSMC (NYSE: TSM) topped the list with total semi revenue of $18.7B, $17.1B, and $12.9B, respectively. Intel's sales were down 4% on the year, while Samsung gained 15% and foundry giant TSMC increased 25%.
  • The top five were rounded out by SK hynix at $7.6B (+26% Y/Y) and Micron (NASDAQ: MU) at $6.6B (+31%).
  • AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) moved into the top 15, coming in at number 11 versus 18 in last year's quarter. Semi sales for the fabless company, meaning AMD outsources its production, were up 93% Y/Y to $3.4B.
  • Related: In March, Intel announced plans to invest $20B in U.S. chip facilities and its push to become a global foundry player.
