I believe Novell stock was heavily shorted

The 17.5% correction in one day doesn't give you the true story. The stock opened at 10 7/8 and closed at 10 5/8. That's today's real trading range. The only people that got out of this stock with their shirts were those that bought in at 9 1/2 in December and got out at 12 before the earnings report. That appears to be the general speculative pattern of this stock. My congratulations to the lucky winners.

As to Novell employees on this thread and in management, their complacency worries me. A lot of them still believe in the false Gods, Marengi and Young, and are quite self-righteous.

No one in the company seems to understand how to compete with NT.

I never understood what was wrong with marketing a high horsepower Java app/web server version of IntranetWare priced to compete in the low end of the market against NT. Call it the perfect NOS on which to develop JAVA apps. I hoped that Kayak would be that product. The message from Marengi was "we aren't interested" or "we don't have it".
Or did I even get a message....

My wife and I noticed in the paper something about Novell sponsoring an exit ramp off the expressway in Utah. Part of their community effort to smooth traffic. We thought to ourselves remember all of those old brick textile factories that stood for years and years abandoned in Massachusetts after the textile industry went South. You guys oughta wise up out there in Utah. What are you going to have when Novell is all boarded up?
