I don't think the book was so vilified as much as its author was...many people consider it a great book without subscribing to any of its tenets....

I don't think anyone who has read Ayn Rand, with at least a semblance of an open mind, can remain unaffected. She was a truly brilliant woman and, although I don't concur with all her views, primarily on emotions and human psychology, she had a tremendous impact on my personal growth. If she were alive today, I could only say to her "Thank you, and well done".
