Where's the warning?

Veritas finally capitulated and confessed that the future isn't
as bright as originally forecast for 2001. EMC just threw their
hands up and said they can't give any meaningful forward guidance
other than Q3 will be worse than Q2. IBM has said that overall
2001 won't be great but they claim to be doing well with their
"Shark" storage system versus EMC.

Add all of this up and one would think NTAP, if they had something
negative to say, would have said it over the last few weeks to
"blend in" with the rest of the negative storage news.

I'm sitting here wondering, which is the likely scenario?

1. NTAP will make their projected flat-ish quarter, thereby meeting
guidance.

2. Things are so bad, that they figure it is worth waiting till
the quarter closes completely to confess, hoping business closes
by the end of the quarter.

My gut says #1 is more likely only because they pre-announced
last quarter around the EMC pre-announcement and would have done
something similar if that were the case this quarter. However,
the abundance of negativity makes one wonder...
