I came to look at this thread because I was told my Takla Star stock price was being impacted by a major happening with Bre-X. After reading the past 200 posts or so, along with the press releases, and other stories, I am absolutely dumfounded. What an amazing, yet sad story. I really don't have an understanding of how samples are collected, transported and analyzed, but common sense tells me that it would be incredibly difficult to taint samples from hundreds of miles of drilling, that took place over such a long period of time. Seems to me, it would be much easier for someone to fraudulently misrepresent the 7 core samples that Freeport did. And, as was said before, if this was being described as one of the most incredible gold finds ever, wouldn't it have been given the highest level of scrutiny to be absolutley sure if their find?

In one of the thousands of newsletter promotional mailings I received, there was one in which the author (forgive me, I can't recall the name) talked about making a fortune for he and his readers with Bre-X. He described how he travelled to the site of the find to see for himself the gold discovery, and came back convinced that he had found a great investment. This guy was convinced as I am sure hundreds of other major players had to be, geologists or not. How could all of these people have been fooled???

The other thing I don't quite understand is (and it is due to my complete lack of understanding of assay techniques) if the samples were "salted" or altered with some sort of gold-bearing solution, how could Indoassay and Kilborn, the companies involved in assaying and determinng the size of the reserve, have been tricked into believing that these samples were natural. Aren't these guys the experts in analyzing mineralization?

The Canadian markets may be closed Friday, but the NASDAQ is open. BXMNF closed at US$1 31/32 with 6.8 million shares having traded hands. I'll be watching closely!!
