Tom, AOL and GTE engaged in a demonstration project a week or two ago in (I think) Clearwater Florida. As near as I can tell it was a staged demonstration of how easy multiple ISP access would be--I know the statements by various executives revolved around that theme. I don't have a url at hand, but I should think you could find the press releases associated with that by looking at corp. news for AOL and GTE someplace like Yahoo--or I suppose here too, though I'm too new here to be familiar with methodologies. I did read the court case (which really said nothing more than that Portland had the right to make requirements associated with the transfer of the license) and also a statement by one of the FCC commissioners indicating that the Commission is not yet ready to try to insist upon competition when there are so many new last mile solutions arriving on the scene.

Personally, I find the idea of AOL or ATHM or RR gaining an exclusive route to the home or business as quite repugnant (but they can try). I don't think it is going to be much of a problem in most places because every customer will have several wireless connections, a twisted pair or two, and a HFC or two. JMHO
