Why does religion often practice the opposite of what it preaches? Love and Respect for Humanity is the True Religion.

Well said. As to why? Who knows, but I think it's because instead of committing ourselves to what the religion preaches, we look for evidence in the religion's words to support what we already believe about life. Racists will find support for their racism. Terrified people will find support for their TRUTH. People like me will find plenty of ideas to intellectualize into submission. And lovers will find new and better ways to express their Love and Respect for Humanity.
